What is a USB Wireless Router?

More than once we will have observed from the corner of our eyes that little box that is close to our PC, whose lights are constantly flashing creating the magic of being able to enjoy Wi-Fi throughout our home. That little box, as we all know, is a router. But what is this device really?

Basically, a router is a device used to distribute Internet signal among all local networked computers, either via Ethernet through a cable, or by means of technology of radio waves, making it the network is characterized by being wireless. Enterprise router is a basic product for any business/enterprise.

In general, both types of networks have benefits and disadvantages, although the fact is that most users usually opt for wireless networks, mainly because these are usually less expensive and easier to configure because they do not require tedious cable connections. between the PCs and the router.

Of course, in order to use the Internet in computers that are part of the wireless network, in addition to the router it will be necessary to have a modem. The Internet signal arrives via the modem, so the wireless router must be connected to the modem in order to provide the entire network with access to the Internet.

However, it should be noted that in the current market there are also wireless routers that have a built-in modem, which can be an excellent option if we want to reduce the number of devices.

Of course, before choosing a wireless router with a built-in modem, we must know what type of Internet access we have, whether it is cable or DSL , since we can choose the correct model based on it.

Another important point to note is that, as we mentioned, wireless routers operate using radio waves, which propagate in a circular pattern, that is, they start from the router and spread out on the outside of the router. That is why it becomes important to take into account the signal strength and speed that can reach the device, because the stronger the signal, the further the connection will arrive.

We must not forget that for this entire process to work, each of the PCs of desks, laptops and devices in general must have their own wireless Wi-Fi internal card, and if not, we must add a wifi portable external device. Fi that supports the same protocol as the wireless router.

What is a USB Wireless Router?

When talking about a USB router, this term refers to the devices that are used to share a broadband Internet connection between several computers , and that are fundamentally designed to be used when a computer does not have an available Ethernet connection.

But the term "USB router" is also often used to designate a device that connects to a PC that is connected to the Internet and shares this connection with other machines wirelessly. This type of connection is known as an ad-hoc connection.

It is important to emphasize that this type of configuration that requires an ad-hoc connection is much less flexible than the traditional router, since it requires that the main computer is always on and connected to the Internet at all times for the network to work , because when the main equipment is off, the other machines can not access the connection.
